From Palermo, Sicily, comes the voice of Caterina Ranieri: a story of dedication and hope in the service of our common home.
My name is Caterina: I am a biologist, mother of three daughters, and grandmother of five wonderful grandchildren. Since 2020, I have been a Laudato Si’ animator and co-founder of a circle dedicated to Integral Ecology Education, together with other Salesian Cooperators.
Participating in the pilgrimage to Assisi was a unique opportunity for me: to bring inspiration to my homeland of Sicily and to young people. At first, however, the preparation through Antonio’s videos discouraged me: I felt inadequate, as if I would not be able to do it.
Then, a few days after my arrival, renal colic forced me to go to the emergency room. At that moment, I realized how precious the support of others is: thanks to Antonio, who accompanied me between Gubbio and Gualdo for a urological consultation, I went through the experience with confidence and gratitude.
Despite the difficulties, every encounter, every smile, and every moment of reflection reminded me of the beauty of walking together, combining care for the Earth with authentic relationships, and conveying to young people the urgency and joy of a concrete commitment to our common home.
